Life On The Farm: Spring is on its way. We are still busy with calving and will be gearing up for irrigation season before we know it! The calves are growing and most importantly staying healthy.

When it comes to calving, twins are an unusual occurrence but not necessarily rare. It's estimated that anywhere between 1-2% of beef cattle pregnancies result in a twin birth. Now 1-2% may seem small, but in large herds this means the likelihood of having sets any given year is decent. When a cow gives birth to twins, it's very common for one to be weaker than the other. Because cows cannot sufficiently meet the needs of twins, we will pull one calf and graft it onto another mother that unfortunately lost its own calf. Here we are transporting a twin to another mother that is waiting in the barn.
